2 Week fully funded Groundworkers Training Programme

The Groundworkers Training Programme Will Help Local Residents
Secure Employment within the Construction Sector

Industry Training Services (ITS) recently won a competitive tender to deliver a Groundworkers Training Programme on behalf of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Labour Market Partnership.

Supported by the Department for Communities (DfC) Employability NI initiative, the programme is fully funded and will enable local residents in the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area to receive training to further their careers or improve their chances of employment within the construction sector. It is open to residents who are unemployed, underemployed (working less than 16 hours per week) or facing redundancy.

Two Week Fully Funded Training Course

The Groundworkers Programme will see successful applicants participate in a two week fully funded training course to develop construction skills, knowledge, and qualifications. Training will cover topics such as drain laying, kerb laying, paving, and excavating around utility services, as well as health and safety skills development including safe use of saws, emergency first aid, and training to obtain a CSR Health and Safety card.

Participants will be able to put their new skills into action in a practical environment during a work placement in a local construction sector business. It is envisaged that upon successful completion of the placement, opportunities to apply for roles within their placement business or within other local construction sector businesses will be available. Participants will also be supported to develop employability skills that will be invaluable during the application and interview processes.

Groundworker training programme

There is a need for skilled workers in the construction industry

Including groundworkers, plasterers, joiners, electricians, plumbers, and carpet fitters. The Groundworkers Programme will equip individuals with the skills required to meet demand within the local economy, and local employers will likewise benefit from access to trained staff to fill vacancies within their organisations.

This programme is one of a number of employability and skills interventions and employment pathways, which the local council and ABC Labour Market Partnership are investing in to equip local residents with the skills and employability supports required to compete for job opportunities and ‘better jobs’ within the Borough.

Through creation of opportunities for every person of working age in the borough to access training and employment opportunities, ITS in partnership with the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Labour Market Partnership has created the Groundworkers Training Programme which will help local people, families, businesses, and communities to succeed and flourish.
