ITS Recognised in Employer of the Year Category at Family Business Awards

ITS celebrated success in the Employer of the Year category at the recent Business Eye Family Business Awards held at The Culloden Estate and Spa.

We were delighted to be shortlisted in both the Employer of the Year and Service Sector Excellence categories, which recognise the importance we place on delivering high standards of service to our customers, and a great work environment for our employees.

We faced stiff competition in both categories but were thrilled to be Highly Commended Runners Up in the Employer of the Year category.

Highly Commended Employer of the Year

The Employer of the Year category sought to identify an NI-based family business leading the way in focusing on its employees, through employee benefits, initiatives and/or communicating effectively with its workforce. In the Employer of the Year category, the SME winner was Belfast based design agency, Whitenoise, and we were delighted to be recognised as a close second with the Highly Commended award.

Brendan Crealey, Managing Director said:

“It can be more challenging to attract employees to a small to medium size family business located in a relatively rural setting like ITS in comparison to a large town or city office. However, we’ve worked really hard over the years to develop a recruitment and rewards package that enables us to secure high calibre employees who share our vision and will hopefully go on to become long-term team members and beneficiaries of our success. Two of our employees have been with the company for over 15 years. We’ve also created many new roles over the last few years, with more to be announced by the end of the year.”

The whole team had a great night out at the event!

Shortlisted for Service Sector Excellence

The Service Sector Excellence Award is presented to an NI-based family business operating at the leading edge in the services sector. Evidence of the use of technology and a clear understanding of the markets we operate in were key elements we had to demonstrate.

Whilst we didn’t win in this category it was still an honour to be included as one of the four finalists, which also included Safe Gas NI, workflow management app company, Workpal, and IT company, Nimbus who were crowned the winners in this category.

Building an Award Winning Training Company

Brendan founded ITS in 2000 after many years spent working as a Civil Engineer on large UK motorway and infrastructure projects. The vision was and still is to build a market leading team of people who deliver engaging training courses that enable participating companies to improve productivity, employee engagement, and staff retention, whilst fostering safer working practices and behaviours to reduce accidents and fatalities.

More than two decades on since ITS launched and we’re delivering locally and globally recognised training courses to businesses throughout Ireland, across a broad range of sectors including construction, utilities, manufacturing, engineering, telecoms, and housing. Our purpose-built training centre at our Portadown headquarters is situated on a 12-acre site close to the M1 Motorway. It enables us to deliver training on topics such as covered street works, confined spaces, scaffolding, working at heights, operating large plant and machinery, temporary works, first aid, and safety in excavations. We also have a Dublin office and deliver courses at various locations across Ireland.

We have invested more than £300,000 over the last two years to extend our Portadown headquarters and open a new Dublin office. We purchased new equipment including a scissor lift and two boom lifts to aid the delivery of our popular working at heights training courses, doubled our training capacity with the addition of five new training classrooms, and hired new team members to ensure that customer needs can be met and exceeded.

With twelve full-time members of staff, four part-time, and fourteen associate trainers, we have plans in place to increase full-time staff by 50% by the end of 2022 to support our ambitious growth plans. This includes sales, marketing, and administrative staff across all departments.
