Industrial staff who are required to operate a mobile wood-chipper as part of their work.
Course Aim:
The aim of this course is to provide training to industrial staff so that they can operate wood-chippers safely and effectively. Training will cover the basic safe operation of a mobile wood-chipper including both trailer and tractor mounted wood chippers.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course candidates will be aware of the following:
Understand the legal requirements relating to operating a portable wood-chipper.
Identify and comply with the relevant manufacturer’s instructions manual.
Identify various hazards associated with the use of wood-chippers including noise, vibration, entanglement, ejection of material being chipped and manual handling.
Identify key controls, functions and any required pre-use checks.
Prepare the wood-chipper for operation including fuelling operations.
Carry out any basic routine maintenance to the wood- chipper safely and efficiently.
Identify the most suitable areas for siting the wood-chipper.
Store and transport the wood-chipper safely.
Carry out any required shut-down checks.
Identify all PPE requirements relating to the wood-chipper.
Training Methods:
A high proportion of hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises, supplemented with classroom based tutorials.

Additional Information:
All candidates attending the course must bring suitable personal protective clothing such as safety helmets, protective boots, gloves, Hi-vis jacket or vest and protective eye wear.
All equipment used must meet current legislation, and have available a current test certificate for inspection and operators manual.
