All persons needing to become a Registered Traffic Management Operative (RTMO) as described in the Sector Scheme Document 12D.
Course Aim:
The aim of this course is to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills required to become a Registered Traffic Management Operative (RTMO). By completing this course, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of national highway sector schemes, health and safety requirements, risk assessments, and industry guidance. The course covers key aspects of temporary traffic management, including equipment, traffic control methods, and safety practices, preparing participants to effectively manage traffic systems and ensure the safety of both motorised and non-motorised road users in various work environments.

Understand the requirements and significance of National Highway Sector Schemes.
Demonstrate awareness of Health and Safety regulations in traffic management.
Conduct Risk Assessments and create Method Statements.
Apply relevant industry Codes of Practice and associated documentation.
Identify and use equipment required for Temporary Traffic Management.
Implement various methods of traffic control, including stop-and-go and priority signing.
Ensure the safety of non-motorised road users in traffic management scenarios.
Prepare for and successfully complete assessments on traffic control system implementation.
Understand the procedures for Mobile and Short Duration works.
Apply the principles of passive and positive traffic control.
Manage traffic at roundabouts, road closures, and diversions effectively.
Operate and manage portable traffic signals, including testing, commissioning, and removal.
Assessment method:
Practical Demonstrations: Set up and operate traffic management systems.
Written Tests: Assess understanding of health and safety, sector schemes, and key concepts.
Continuous Observation: Ongoing evaluation during practical exercises and discussions.
Completion Criteria: Competence in both practical skills and theoretical knowledge.
Accreditation:
Upon completion, participants will receive certification as a Registered Traffic Management Operative (RTMO).
