The aim of the course is to give trainees technical instruction in the following:

•  Basic principles of levelling.
• The accurate use of a variety of modern levels.
• The booking and calculation of reduced levels by the accepted methods.
• Setting out of kerbs and drains.
• The use of cross heads, sight rails and boning rods to control levels in the above works.
• Plotting of longitudinal and road cross sections.
• Plotting of contours.
• The testing of the instruments used in levelling.
