ITS has developed a new innovative course, unique to Ireland, this training aims to help companies reduce the number of utilities strikes on site
A new unique mock ‘street’ has been developed at the 10 acre training facility allowing this new training to proceed. The mock street is complete with underground cables, street lighting and water pipes and was designed specifically to meet the training needs of utilities firms.
The course covers detailed theory and practical training on the cat & genny location equipment, locating all the common types of utility apparatus. Following this the candidates carry out several excavations in a specifically constructed area containing live services. This excavation is done using a mini digger operated by a candidate and also a banksman from the group.
The practical excavation activity focuses on the important communication between excavator driver and banksman in order to reduce potential damage to services.
